The Profession of Pharmacy has changed...
“The pharmacist is the only health care provider with a cash register”...
As pharmacists, we are the end providers of services on your health care journey. Pharmacists are the only health care provider the see how your therapies affect you pocketbook, and can appreciate its effects on your lifestyle. The latest and greatest treatment of a disease or ailment is useless if it cannot be afforded.
“Evolving from being a compounder of potions and salves to that of a clinically based social worker”...
Before the era of managed medicine, the pharmacist's role was that of a provider able to concoct elixirs or salves for folks in the community who would come in to the pharmacy looking for some relief of their illness. Today the majority of medications come prepackaged and premixed leaving the pharmacist responsible for only having to accurately fill the prescriptions, check for medication interactions, and bill the insurance properly. What sets Spartan Pharmacy apart from other providers is our sincere desire to make sure that your medications not only are effective, but that they are also affordable.
“Taking the time to make intervention on the patient's behalf”...
Many pharmacy providers have taken the route of more is better. Just fill as many prescriptions as possible, fill them exactly the way the physician wrote them, and only address issues if the patient complains. Spartan Pharmacy takes a much different stance. Every prescription that comes into our store is an opportunity for our pharmacists to review the patient's history, consider what the physician is prescribing, and intervene on the patient's behalf if there a more cost effective alternative.
“Mail order pharmacy is the most blatant abuse of the health care system today, and our politicians are allowing it to happen”…
Can you imagine being diagnosed by a physician through an email? Would you ever trust your infant's health to a pediatrician that didn't have an office for visits? Could you imagine getting a sonogram of your first child with no doctor in the room to answer your questions or review the procedure? Why then do we allow insurance companies and employers to force members and employees to use the services of pharmacies located in other states that offer little to no customer service, and worst of all have complete strangers filling your prescriptions?
We believe that service goes beyond just the price of medications. Believe it or not, despite the coercive pricing of the insurance companies, often times people actually save money when they switch from mail order to Spartan Pharmacy not because we can offer a lower copay, but because the medication therapies filled at mail order are so wasteful. Unfortunately, more often than not people only realize this after they have a costly experience with a mail order pharmacy, and they look elsewhere for service.
